DIR (Doing It Right) is a diving ideology, which has its origin in America, but since 1996 it has also spread widely in Europe. DIR aims to standardize diving equipment on the one hand and to standardize certain procedures on the other. This procedure has led to a strong decrease in diving accidents in the past. For a dive unnecessary objects are not taken along, possible sources of errors as far as possible removed (e.g. tearing rubber fin straps). Every DIR diver knows exactly where he will find what equipment on another DIR diver. This prevents, for example, that the wrong cylinder valve is turned off by mistake.
